Open domes are intended to be used for people who have mild to moderate hearing loss. These domes have numerous holes in them which lets the low frequency sound go directly in the ear bypassing the hearing aids. The holes also serve as the purpose of ear ventilation which cuts down on the sensation that "have your head in a bucket" when talking or chewing. Open domes are the most prone to feedback (whistle) in high frequency hearing loss.
